A Heron like bird snoozing on the river bank
Cruising into Aschaffenburg the Johannisburg Palace came into view.  It has a huge collection of paintings including ones by the old masters as well as a collection of 200 RACE CARS!!

Johannisburg Palace built in 1602 bombed and resotred after WWII

The family
The ship we were on had  porthole type windows just above the water line.  These for the most part were crew quarters.  Each morning wherever we were docked, the swans would swim a long the row of windows pecking on each window until one would open and feed them. They were so spoiled.  They would come and sit in teh water by the windows when we were at dinner....just looking and being social.

And then there was the River Main.......

The nice thing about a river cruise is that even when you want to sit and chill there are always things to see.  Jim and I hit every excursion possible but some people were content to sit int he lounge and watch Germany slide by....I could have easily enjoyed that just as much.  My cat-like nature won out and I was always I was afriad I would miss something.  There are tie when you di just sit on the ship and watch....which is charming.  Here are a few pics from those quiet times.
