Marriage Today

Over Valentine's Weekend Jim and I got to go to the Marriage Today Seminar by Jimmy and Karen Evans.  He said something about Sarcasm that struck a chord with me.  Occasionally someone will make a sacracastic comment that stings.  You laugh it off and think, that was meant as a joke.  They will pass it off as, "Oh I was just teasing", or " You just don't undertand my/their sense of humor ".

Sarcasm is Truth with Anger and it is meant to hurt the other person.  Look back at time that teasing hurt you.  Each time the person was someone who had a reason to vent anger at you and wanted to hurt you.

When that is the case it IS sarcasm--and is meant to hurt.  Sarcasm is not something you want to use in your daily life--those who do have anger and bitterness, are directing sarcasm at other people to hurt them.  Jimmy Evans stressed how destructive it can be in a marraige--but actually it can destroy any relationship.
